What do you like about teaching dance hen parties in Brighton?
Ever since I started teaching hen parties, my favourite thing has always been the energy and laughter that always surrounds a group. Being a hen do, people are always really happy and it makes them such lovely groups to teach.
I love helping them get stuck in & enjoy the dancing. It is also great to hear that they are going to perform what you have taught them at the wedding.
What is your favourite hen party moment?
My favourite bit is always when a group successfully pulls off the lift in the Dirty Dancing hen party; I love their sheer surprise in themselves that they did it!!! Lots of photos are always taken at this moment!!
Where did you train to become a dancer?
I trained at Laban and gained a BA in Dance Theatre. I specialised in Contemporary dance and teaching inclusive practice (which is great for teaching hen parties). I started my career as a professional contemporary dancer and performed with a number of shows and companies, touring around the UK and abroad. A highlight for me was performing in a dance show at the National Theatre. We then went on tour with the show around Sweden which was an amazing experience.
Do you prefer performing or teaching dance?
It is impossible to choose because they are both so much fun. I always wanted to be a dancer but since qualifying, I have done a lot of work on the teaching side as well. I have taught for organisations such as Hampshire Dance, StopGAP Dance Company, The Education Group, Intrepid Theatre and Brighton Dance Inclusion. The challenges involved in teaching are so different to performing but the thing I love about teaching hen parties it the way they sort of combine the two. The parties feel more like shows than classes because it’s all about the guests enjoying themselves!
