What are your top 3 favourite Cheerleading Company hen parties in Edinburgh & Glasgow?
- Cheerleading hen party - because I love the amount of fun you can have bringing out your inner cheesy American teenager!
- Single ladies hen party - mainly due to the fact that Beyoncé is phenomenal and I want to be here so what better than to pretend you are in her music video?!
- Charleston hen party – it is one of my favourites because it’s so cute and flirty but fun a jumpy too! These are all good things in my book!
How did you train to become a dance teacher?
Dancing has been my passion for almost 20 years and I’m sure it will always be. I started to think more seriously about dance when studying ballet, contemporary, tap and jazz at a Specialist Dance School in Edinburgh. It was here that my teaching experience began too, taking on the afterschool dance club at age 15. This was a pretty crazy experience but I learned a lot and had so much fun doing it too! I went on to set up a dance society which covered a range of dance styles from dancercise to Irish, and from ballet to street dance. It was so fun working with people who were as excited about dance as me. I received my formal training at The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, Dundee where I studied contemporary dance. I absolutely loved training here and had lots of great experiences touring, performing and taking workshops and working with Professional companies to choreograph pieces in unusual locations and of course the extremely exciting and intense, end of term performances. Even though I now dance and teach professionally, I still love nothing more than going crazy on the dance floor with my bests while thinking that I look like Beyoncé and JT combined.
What do you love about teaching hen parties?
I love working for The Cheerleading Company because we get to create an amazing and fun experience for groups of friends who are anticipating a very important day and so I take it upon myself to make sure we celebrate this properly! I still remember my first ever hen party. It was with a great group who had signed up for our cheerleading party and dressed the bride-to-be in this amazing cheerleading outfit! They were such a lovely group and I had such a laugh teaching them the personalised wedding cheer which included this funny story of how the bride & groom met at a house party. The Cheerleading hen party always brings everyone out of their shell and was such a great first experience it left me super excited to teach my next party!
Who are your dance inspirations?
They vary from Sylvie Guillem (a fantastic ballet turned contemporary dancer) and Akram Khan, to Michael Jackson and Madonna. They are unique, original and not afraid to push boundaries which is a very exciting quality to have! I also remember watching Gene Kelly in old movies and being completely hypnotised by him. The way he performed with every breath in his body made me want to jump into the TV and dance with him. In my opinion, there comes a point where technique lessons and hours of practice should be thrown out the window. The joy of cranking up the music and dancing like Britney, is like no other and makes us all feel fabulous!
